What happens with promotion and tenure (or any other reviews) scheduled for the Fall of 2020?
URI/AAUP and the University also have an agreement in principle on this issue. URI/AAUP andthe University are working on an agreement that is flexible enough to address every individual faculty member’s circumstance. Some faculty may be ready toachieve promotion and tenure despite the global pandemic, some faculty may have scholarship delayed, and some may have hiring packages delayed.

Is the library available?
URI/AAUP has advocated for closing the library in order to protect faculty and staff. For now, the University is keeping the library open but reduced access and hours. The information is here: https://uri.libguides.com/covid
Where do faculty with no remote teaching experience even begin?
First, realize that you have the latitude to determine what you want to do and how you want to do it. For some faculty, remote learning may consist only of email exchanges with students.
Second, you do not need to be an online expert. This article has advice on how to boil the class down to the basics.
Third, ATL has great resources here. They have information to help you transition from face-to-face classes to online learning that will help you decide which methods and tools might be most useful.
How do I grade the extra work that will accumulate?
Recommendations from ATL and the Provost suggest adjusting the workload to what is manageable. The Remote Learning Task force and ATL have received questions about assessing student work and will provide more guidance on that subject.
How do I manage a work-life balance?
At this moment, we can all feel like we are always “on.” I recommend setting limits on your work time. It is ok if every email is not answered immediately. Sometimes (maybe many times) people send emails when they are thinking about it and do not expect an immediate response. If a conference call or video conference is scheduled at a time you are not available decline it the same way you would during regular workdays. We all work in different ways and at different times. Find the balance that works for you and stick to it.
